First President

Howard Yackytooahnipah, Comanche, was the first president of the Golden State Gourd Society.  He was elected in 1971 and served until his tragic death in the Cerritos Plane crash on August 31, 1986.  He perished along with his family, wife Sharon, step-daughters Jennifer and Sandra Starr, Juanita Missy Logan and Freeman Jackson.  He will never be forgotten for his knowledge and love of gourd dancing and the spirit with which he participated.
